Before you begin refurbishing your formica countertops, you would require ammonia cleaner, sandpaper, and many farm rollers along with primer, four cans of spray paint and one can of polyurethane spray gloss.

Now that you got everything with yourself, let’s get going with the entire process.

Do not use your kitchen for at least 2 days and schedule out everything inside. Go for such an arrangement that you would not have to use your countertops to serve meal to the family members. There are various methods to do so. If you cannot afford to order food every time, then you may arrange meal on other side of your kitchen.

Make sure to clean up all of the formica countertops with a wet cloth and then with a dry one. After this you should also rub it with a soft brush. Wash as much as you can until the entire countertops become dry.

Do the same thing using ammonia cleaner by washing the entire formica countertops and then leaving them to dry up until they give you a good shiny look.

After they have been dried up, now use a sander to sand up the surface of these countertops. There are various methods you can do this. Either you can use manual sandpaper or an electric powered sander. This sanding would help to clear up the uneven surface so that the paint can better stick to the countertops easily.

Once the sanding is complete, wipe off the entire formica countertops with a wet cloth and leave to dry. This part is very careful. You do not want your utensils or any other part of the kitchen to get painted. You would need only countertops to be painted. As a result use a paper tape and tape up everything else at the sides of the countertops that you don’t want to get painted.

Use a foam roller and apply primer in a slow way so that no air bubbles can catch up in between. Follow the instructions written on the can and allow time to cool and wave off.

Here comes the fun part. It’s time to spray your formica countertops with the stone pain that you had bought from the hardware store. There are various awesome and great spray paints available in the market but you would only want to get the one that you like. Consult the shopkeeper on the bestselling brand available. The stone effect is provided when you spray the formica countertops in a way that pebbles are formed by the spray. Apply first coat and leave to dry. Now apply the second coat very carefully. Don’t miss out anything in between.
